Today at 3 p.m. on Capitol Hill a coalition of bipartisan legislators, 9/11 responders and survivors, and labor leaders, as well as Jon Stewart and 9/11 advocate John Feal held a press conference to introduce the Never Forget the Heroes: Permanent Authorization of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund Act.

The speakers included U.S. Senators Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), Cory Gardner (R-CO), and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY), Congressman Jerry Nadler (D-NY), Chair of the House Judiciary Committee which will be considering the bill, Congressman Peter King (R-NY), Jon Stewart, 9/11 Health Advocate John Feal, President of NYS AFL-CIO Mario Cilento, International Association of Firefighters General Secretary-Treasurer Edward A. Kelly, President of Uniformed Fire Officers Association Local 854 Jake Lemonda, Vice President of Uniformed Firefighters Association Local 94 LeRoy McGuinness, President of the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association Pat Lynch, Director of Community Affairs & Strategic Initiatives of the Building & Construction Trades Council of Greater New York Santos Rodriguez, and student survivor advocate Lila Nordstrom.

The Never Forget the Heroes Act would extend the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund to 2090, rollback recent cuts in compensation to 9/11 victims, and return to issuing award payments in full.
