Over the past two decades, 9/11 toxin exposure victims have suffered from debilitating health conditions that are often fatal. Countless survivors and first responders have been diagnosed with a variety of conditions that include physical injuries that were direct results of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, severe respiratory conditions, lung diseases, and cancers.

Although financial compensation can never undo the harm caused by the 9/11 attacks, it is the best remedy our country has found to help 9/11 victims cope with the pain, suffering, and losses they have endured for more than 20 years. The 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund (VCF), which was created by the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act.

A 9/11 Lawyer Can Help You Seek Compensation From the VCF

The 9/11 lawyers of Pitta & Baione dedicate their practice to protecting the rights of survivors and first responders who often live with permanent conditions that require continuous medical treatment. We have helped clients recover compensation through the filing of VCF claims. This will ensure our clients receive fair compensation that is commensurate with the severity of their injuries or illnesses and the individual losses they suffered.

More Than $300 Million Awarded to 9/11 Victims

At Pitta & Baione, we have recovered more than $300 million in compensation from the VCF for our clients, most of whom suffer from serious medical conditions, such as cancer and lung disease. Our lawyers represent 9/11 victims as well as the loved ones of those who have passed away from their 9/11-related conditions.

For deceased victims, a legal representative can pursue a wrongful death claim with the VCF. Pitta & Baione, unlike other 9/11 law firms, assist clients by handling both the VCF claims and the probate and estate matters that are necessary when pursuing a wrongful death claim on behalf of a deceased loved one.

The Never Forget the Heroes Act – Funding the VCF Until 2090

Funding for the World Trade Center Health Program (WTCHP), which provides medical monitoring and treatment for 9/11-related health conditions – along with the VCF – is critical to ensure access to healthcare and compensation for years to come. The most recent legislation to solidify funding for the VCF until 2090 is the Never Forget the Heroes, James Zadroga, Ray Pfeifer, and Luis Alvarez Permanent Authorization of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund Act.

Signed into law by President Trump in July of 2019, the Never Forget the Heroes Act extends the VCF filing deadline to October 1, 2090. Funding is allocated to pay pending and future claims filed on or before the 2090 deadline. According to the VCF’s 2022 Budget & Performance Plan, an estimated $2 billion is needed in 2022 to pay VCF claims. The total amount of VCF award issued to date is $9.89 billion,, which exemplifies the extent to which first responders and survivors have suffered over the past two decades.
