On Wednesday February 27, 2019, Pitta & Baione LLP hosted a Town Hall event at the Staten Island Advance to educate Staten Islanders about the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund (9/11 VCF), the current funding crisis, the recently announced 50-70% cuts, and and the Never Forget the Heroes Act.

The speakers included James Clinton, Community Liaison for Congressman Max Rose’s office, Eric Allen, President of the New York State Supreme Court Reporters Association, Pitta & Baione LLP Senior Advisor and three-term Staten Island Borough President, James P. Molinaro, and Pitta & Baione LLP Founding Partners Christopher J. Baione and Matthew J. Baione.

The event provided the Firm with an opportunity to speak directly with  Staten Islanders to explain intricacies of the 9/11 VCF, how the recent cuts in compensation will impact victims, why the funding crisis occurred, and how the Never Forget the Heroes Act can resolve it. Attendees shared their stories and experiences with the World Trade Center Health Program, the 9/11 VCF, and their plans to advocate for the Never Forget the Heroes Act. Many took the opportunity to ask partners Christopher J. Baione and Matthew J. Baione about how the issues will directly impact their lives.

Pitta & Baione LLP explained how the Never Forget the Heroes Act would extend the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund to 2090, roll back recent cuts in compensation to 9/11 victims, and return to issuing award payments in full. We urge our clients, friends, family, and colleagues to call on our legislators’ support of the Never Forget the Heroes Act.
