The VCF Registration Deadline is July 29, 2021: Protect Your Rights and Register Today
The VCF Registration Deadline is July 29, 2021
If you or a loved one have not yet registered with the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund (VCF), you should be aware that the July 29 deadline to register is quickly approaching. We encourage you to register today to protect your rights, and possibly the rights of your deceased loved ones who you believe may have died of a 9/11-related physical health condition.
Did you know that while the VCF claim filing deadline is the same for everyone, the VCF registration deadline is not? Here’s what you need to know to determine which answer applies to your circumstances:
Why should I register with VCF?
Registering with the VCF preserves your right to file a claim in the future, and serves only to alert the VCF that you may be a potential claimant. It shows you are meeting the legal requirement of timeliness set forth by the law, waives no legal rights, and does not obligate you to file a claim.
How do I know if I need to register with VCF?
The registration deadline is not the same for everyone. At Pitta & Baione, LLP, we understand the process may be stressful, so if there is any doubt or question in your mind, just call us to register. Here is a breakdown of the circumstances that require registration:
- If you were certified by the World Trade Center (WTC) Health Program for a 9/11-related physical health condition before July 29, 2019, then you are required to register your claim with the VCF by the July 29, 2021 deadline.
- If you have not been certified by the WTC Health Program for a 9/11-related physical health condition, or if any condition was certified after July 29, 2019, you may register by July 29, 2021; however, you are not required to do so.
- If you are registering to file a claim for an individual who you believe died of a 9/11-related physical health condition before July 29, 2019, then you are required to register with the VCF by July 29, 2021.
- If you are registering to file a claim for an individual who you believe died of a 9/11-related physical condition after July 29, 2019, then you are required to register with the VCF within two years of the date of death.
No matter what circumstances apply to you or a loved one, contact Pitta & Baione, LLP to help you through the process.
